Many people come in for help with eliminating headaches in my practice.  They have often tried different medications, but not seen lasting relief.  And, because the pain is in the head, most people think headaches have to do with something wrong in a part of the brain.

But both in Chinese Medicine, and from what I can see from Nutritional Analysis, the real problem stems from a few main organs.  Healing these organs can have a long lasting result for the vast majority of headache and migraines issues.

The organs I am talking about are the liver, the gall bladder, and the thyroid.   When a liver and/or gall bladder is clogged, a headache can often result.  When it’s the liver, the headache is usually behind the eyes, when it is the gall bladder, the result can be a one-sided migraine, a headache closer to the temples or side of the head, or an occipital (back of the head, near the neck) headache.  All of these can be treated with liver/gall bladder cleansing herbs and foods.  These include milk thistle, dandelion root and leaves, and most green vegetables.

What kind of things clog a liver/gall bladder?  Heavy metals, such as mercury, or aluminum, or lead can accumulate in these organs and cause problems, as can chemicals such as pesticides, bleach and much more.  This is why it is helpful to clean out these organs on a regular basis – at least once a year.

For some people, especially women, the thyroid can be involved.  If the headaches occur later in the day, when a person is tired, this is often a side of thyroid fatigue.  Strengthening thyroid function with iodine and fatty acids can do a lot of good.

The other big factor that can affect headaches is EMF exposure – that is to wi fi, cell phones, smart meters, and 5g towers.  If you are experiencing headaches, keep these devices as far away from you as possible, and keep your bedroom free of any WiFi devices.

If the headaches are still persisting after following the above directions, I suggest coming in for a Nutritional Analysis session.  There may be food sensitivities that are triggering the headaches, or a person may simply need a very customized detox plan that can target the exact culprit that is creating the headaches.  Sometimes standard liver cleanses are not quite enough to get at a more deep seated issue.

And of course, I recommend acupuncture, exercise, and any number of bodywork and stress relieving modalities.  All help regulate liver function, and work well together to help get rid of headaches altogether.
